With all these smart devices coming into our homes our networks have become like a house party that’s got out of control – we no longer know who or what is in our virtual home and whether these unknown elements pose a threat to our security.
Using the Fing IP scanning app to see what is using your Internet is the first step in gaining control over your network again.
So How Have We Improved Our Already Awesome IP Scanner?
Our users loved Fing’s amazing IP scanning tools so we have grown the amount of details that the App provides to include more protocols and better detail on each device and on the network.
Although the free Fing account allows you to create a digital inventory of the devices on your network, the presentation of the networks on the app needed to be clearer and more logical.
Adopting the UX patterns called “Progressive Disclosure”, Fing is now displaying by default the most relevant aspects of a device and network status, giving you the ability to expand to see more details and access additional settings.
To give our users clearer visibility over their IP scans we have made some significant updates to the interface:
Card views for network, devices and tools give a better-organized overview of your data.
Cards can be expanded to show more details
Actions are all grouped together, with a standard 3-vertical-dots marker to expand for more actions when available
Network settings are now available directly in the network details
An additional marker shows the Access Point the scanning device was connected to during the network discovery.
The Android app‘s night mode colors have also been reviewed and aligned to Android standard colors
Is This Update Available on Both the Android and IOS Apps?
Although the update is currently only available on Android, don’t worry Apple IP scanners we haven’t forgotten you – this update will also be available on iOS within the next month, so watch this space!
From Fing’s IP Scanning to Fingbox’s Network Security Tools
Fingbox is a hardware device that allows homeowners to use Fing’s IP scanning tools remotely. With Fingbox you can scan who is on your home network from anywhere in the world, even from the comfort of your holiday poolside lounger!
But Fingbox’s capabilities don’t stop there. The hardware unlocks loads of security features on your app, including the ability to block unknown devices from accessing your network.
If your network is like an out-of-control house party, Fingbox is the bouncer you can bring in to monitor the guest list, and remove unwanted intruders.
We are very proud of the features so far on Fingbox, but what is the use of amazing network security and troubleshooting features if they are difficult to use?
This is why our enhancements to the interface of the app are so vital to the production of Fingbox. We want all homeowners to have access to easy-to-use security and troubleshooting tools for their network, and an interface that allows them to understand their network better.
